The number of mortgage sales in the Netherlands in 2022 declined for the time since 2013. During that period, the number of new mortgage loans rose from 170,000 in 2013 to 515,000 in 2021, followed by a drop to 462,000 in 2022. One of the reasons behind the nearly decade-long period was the asset purchase programme (APP) of the European Central Bank and the low mortgage rates. This can be seen in the, the number of registered transactions which saw a steady increase.
