In 2022, there were over three times more permits issued for the construction of housing units in Flanders than in the rest of the country. Over 40,000 building permits were issued in Flanders, nearly 10,800 in Wallonia, and less than 1,000 in the capital region of Brussels. The number of building permits issued in Belgium as a whole reached a peak in 2021.
