Prices of diesel fuel in Belgium 2000-2021
After easing from a high of 1.47 euros per liter in 2012, the price of diesel fuel in Belgium increased from 2016 to 2019, eventually reaching 1.44 euros per liter. 2002 and 2003 saw the lowest price this century, when diesel fuel was available for an average price of 73 euro cents per liter. In 2021, diesel fuel price stood at 1.41 euros per liter.

Diesel vehicles were once a favorite of European drivers, but environmental concerns and regulatory changes have triggered a shift in recent years. Between 2013 and 2017, the share of new passenger cars with diesel engines fell steeply across Europe. In Germany, shares dropped by approximately 10 percent during this period to 39 percent.
