Total value of Australian wine exports FY 2009- FY 2023
Domestic sales and consumption of wine
Domestic wine sales in Australia were worth 501 million Australian dollars during the 2019 financial year. This represents both an increase from 2018 and a continued year on year upward trend. Consumption of wine per capita has remained largely consistent during recent years. During the 2018 financial year, Australians consumed 13.8 liters of white wine and 10.59 liters of red wine per person, as well as around four liters of other types of wine.
Exports and production
Following an early 2010’s decline, exports of wine from Australia has seen growth in recent years, reaching just over 2.5 billion Australian dollars in the 2018 financial year. This growth is expected to continue, reaching 3.6 million Australian dollars in 2023. Production of wine reached 622 million liters of white wine and 776 million liters of red wine in the 2006 financial year; this represents a historical high, and production levels have yet to reach these peaks again. However, during the 2019 financial year, production of white wine fell to 514 million liters and grew to 684 million liters of red wine; in the latter case indicating recovery from a 2018 drop in production.
