Non-household electricity prices in the Netherlands 2008-2022

Non-residential electricity prices in the Netherlands for an annual consumption of 500 to 2,000 megawatt-hours averaged 17.62 euro cents per kilowatt-hour in 2022. This was the highest price recorded in a decade, reached after a steady growth of electricity prices in the country from 2019 that boomed during the global energy crisis of 2022.

Non-household electricity prices across Europe

The price recorded in 2022 put the Dutch market among the 10 markets with the cheapest non-household electricity prices in the EU. That year, Romanian and Italian electricity users with a consumption of 500 to 2,000 megawatt-hours would pay the highest costs in the region, at over 29.5 euro cents per kilowatt-hour. Meanwhile, those in Finland had the lowest costs in the EU, at 9.79 euro cents per kilowatt-hour.

Energy in the Netherlands

In 2021, electricity generation in the Netherlands amounted to some 122 terawatt-hours, a slight increase in comparison to previous years. Fossil fuels still account for the largest share of electricity production in the country, with natural gas alone accounting for roughly half of the output in 2021. Hard coal contributed another 13.4 percent that year.
