Mobile phone ownership among children in Sweden 2018, by phone type and age group

Most Swedish children had smartphones as of 2018. The ownership rate was highest among teenagers, aged between 13 and 16 years, reaching 97 percent. In comparison, the corresponding figure for ownership of phones, different from smartphones, was five percent of the children in the same age group. A study conducted in 2018 investigated what share of Swedish children up to ten years old owned mobile phones. The older the kids were, the higher the phone penetration rate was and 88 percent of the ten-year olds were smartphone owners.

 How often do Swedish kids go online via mobile phones? 

     97 percent of the Swedish teenagers, aged 13 to 18 years, used their cell phones for internet every day in 2018. There were no respondents of these ages who had never done it that, whereas three percent of the younger children, aged between nine and 12 years, reported to have never used mobile phones to go online.

 Swedes who use the internet daily via phones

     Within all interviewed Swedes who were 12 years old or older in 2018, internet usage via phones was most common among 16- to 25-year olds. 97 percent of the respondents in this age group used the internet daily on a smartphone.
