In the financial year 2024, Indian airports reported around 2.7 million aircraft movements. There was a significant decrease in 2021 in comparison with previous years. The drop in aviation figures was mainly due to the restrictive regulations pertaining to air travel imposed during the coronavirus pandemic.

IndiGo Airlines was the leading air carrier in India. In financial year 2024, it carried around 106.4 million domestic and international passengers. It was established in 2006 and headquartered in Gurgaon. It dominated the sector with around 61 percent of the market share, leaving its competitors far behind. The airline has received numerous awards and recognitions for its performance and customer service, including being ranked as one of the world's best low-cost airlines by Skytrax.
