Facebook users in Norway Q4 2023, by age group

As of the fourth quarter of 2023, 87 percent of Norwegians between 50 and 59 years were Facebook users, making this demographic the country's largest audience for this social media platform. The usage rate of people aged 60 years and over was 82 percent. Younger people used Facebook less in recent years, while older generations are adapting to it and using it more. Regarding usage frequency, the majority of Facebook users engaged with the platform on a daily basis.

As of September 2023, Facebook held a market share of roughly 66 percent, making it the leading social network in Norway. Facebook's dominance in the Norwegian social media market is expected to continue in the coming years, as the platform's penetration rate is projected to reach almost 75 percent by 2026.

 Social media in the Nordics 

 Norway leads the Nordic region in terms of social media usage, with 81.7 percent of the population actively using social media as of January 2024. In 2022, social networks like Facebook were the most popular type of online social media, with 76 percent of Norwegian respondents indicating their preference for it. Media sharing platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram followed while instant messengers like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger ranked third.
