In 2019, the net turnover of Dutch department stores reached close to over 2,000 euros, while store sales of department stores had amounted to roughly 1,585 euros per square meter. Compared to the previous year, both net turnover and store sales figures in the Netherlands declined significantly. In the last five years, the highest figures were recorded in 2016 and 2017.

The source notes the turnover excludes taxes "from the sales of goods and products and the provision of services to third parties". Moreover the source states the figures only include companies located in the Netherlands. It states: "Only the turnover of the activities exploited in the Netherlands is included in the case of foreign companies with Dutch branches. For Dutch companies with branches abroad, only the turnover of their (retail) stores in the Netherlands were included." The source states: "the numbers are national averages".
The source defines the shop floor area as the floor area of the store which is visible and available to the public.
