Economic inactivity rate in Italy 2019-2024, by gender

The economically inactive population comprises those neither employed nor unemployed, i.e., not actively searching for a job. Hence, they are not classified in the labor force. In Italy, the share of economically inactive women is around the double of that of men. As of July 2024, 24 percent of the male and 42 percent of the female population were economically inactive.
