Quarterly number of asylum applications in Denmark 2015-2022

The total number of asylum applications in Denmark peaked in the fourth quarter of 2015, when almost 12,000 applications were registered. Since the second quarter of 2016, the number has usually been between 500 and 1,000 registered applications. Stricter asylum policies, for instance a recently implemented law making it possible to send asylum applicants to a non-EU country while the application is being processed, have had an impact on the number of asylum seekers in the country. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has also reduced the number of applications as travel restrictions have made it more difficult for asylum seekers to come to Denmark. The Danish government has a target of zero asylum applications.
