Number of deaths in Denmark 2021, by cause of death

In 2021, nearly 60,000 individuals deceased in Denmark. The most common cause of death was malignant neoplasm, a cancerous tumor. Different kinds of malignant neoplasm caused approximately 16,000 deaths in Denmark, followed by heart diseases which caused 7,600 deaths.

The most common types of cancer

Cancer is a common illness, and approximately 45,000 new cases were diagnosed in Denmark in 2020. The number of new cancer cases over time generally increased. Among the new cases in 2020, the most common cancer type among women was breast cancer. The most common cancer among men was genitourinary and gastrointestinal.    

Falling number of breath cancer deaths per inhabitant

Even though breast cancer was the most common type of cancer among women in Denmark, the number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants caused by breast cancer fell over the past decade, indicating an improvement in treatment methods.
