Distribution of social media used in Turkey 2016-2018
Despite the decrease seen among survey respondents, social networks in Turkey** are generally increasing their reach. By 2022, the social network penetration rate is predicted to reach 44.85 percent, up from 38.95 percent in 2015.
The total number of social network users in Turkey** is also tipped to increase in the coming years, eventually reaching 38.74 million users by 2022.
While the Turkish population's use of social networks appears to be increasing, users in that country may find their posts removed at a higher rate than users in other nations. During the first six months of 2015, Turkey accounted for 72 percent of all requests to remove content from Twitter. Courts and government departments made 1,003 requests to remove content during that time, the vast majority of which came from Turkey. Russia was the next highest jurisdiction by volume, accounting for 7 percent of removal requests.
