Forecast of the smartphone user penetration rate in Poland 2015-2025

In 2025, the share of monthly active smartphone users is projected to reach 88.76 percent of the total population. This would be an increase of around 5.4 percent from 83.35 percent in 2020. For comparison, the share of smartphone users in 2015 was 32.8 percent lower than in 2020.

Smartphone users

In 2020, there were almost 22 million smartphone users in Poland, twice as many as in 2015. Moreover, the number of smartphone users is expected to grow to over 28 million by 2025. Depending on age, the number of smartphone users varies. In 2017 in Poland, up to 98 percent of people under 25 years old used a smartphone, while only 44 percent over 55 years old. Besides, children are increasingly using smartphones at an earlier age. In 2019 in Poland, almost 42 percent of children aged seven to eight have already started using smartphones. Differences in the use of a smartphone are also visible by gender. In 2017, in Poland, the percentage difference between male and female users was five percent, with 73 percent for men.

Mobile usage

Today, fewer and fewer people are sending classic SMS. Over the last seven years the number of SMSs sent in Poland has decreased to 45 billion in 2019 from 53 billion in 2012. While, in recent years, mobile messenger applications have gained popularity. In 2019, more than 86 percent of the Poles surveyed used a messenger application, and almost 44 percent used WhatsApp. An essential aspect of using a smartphone is the possibility to use the Internet on it. In 2019, almost 80 percent of Poles used the Internet on the phone to browse the websites, and almost 70 percent used it to scroll through social media.
