How much time do people spend listening to radio?
Other audio platforms have increased in popularity at the expense of radio listening in Finland. However, radio listening still accounts for nearly 73 percent of the audio listening time. Although the consumption of audio platforms, such as Spotify, YouTube, podcast and audiobook services, has steadily increased, the daily radio listening time among Finns was two hours and 16 minutes as of 2023.
Mobile listening on the rise
Digital services and mobile devices have contributed to the high weekly reach of radio. Almost all Finnish radio channels are available online, and young people especially use their smartphones to listen to the radio. Based on survey results from 2022, around 35 percent of under 25-year-olds listened to the radio on their phone. Nonetheless, 77 percent of Finns preferred using a good old receiver despite the digitalization of radio broadcasting.
