EU-27: main importing countries of semi-finished steel products 2010-2022

Throughout the period given, Germany was the leading importing country of semi-finished steel products in the European Union. The country's imports grew from around 21.9 million metric tons to around 27 million metric tons between 2013 and 2018, before plummeting dramatically in the years that followed. As of 2022, Germany imported nearly 21 million metric tons of finished and semi-finished steel products. That year, Italy ranked second, with approximately 20.2 million metric tons of imports.
Semi-finished steel products are mainly used in industry for the further production of finished steel products. They are produced through the continuous casting of liquid steel or by rolling or forging of steel ingots.
