Hospitals in Czechia 2005-2021

Since 2005, the number of hospitals in Czechia has remained fairly stable. There were 266 hospitals in Czechia in 2022, and although this is the highest number in the provided interval, the number of hospitals never declined by more than four percent.

In Czechia, the number of healthcare personnel has increased while the number of health institutions has remained stable. The number of healthcare workers in Czechia in the period 2000 to 2020 has increased by over 115 thousand. Furthermore, the number of practicing nurses in Czechia increased by around 12 thousand since the year 2000. 

Spending indicators on health 

Czechia’s expenditure on healthcare amounted to 9.1 percent of its’ GDP in 2020. It has been generally increasing overall since 1990. In comparison to other European countries, Czechia ranked relatively low on the share of GDP spent on health expenditures. Germany had the highest share of expenditure on health, spending 12.8 percent of its GDP in the regarded year.
