Coffee and tea are the two most popular hot beverages in Germany. As far as drinking tea is concerned, teabags are preferred. Coffee drinkers favor roasted coffee or ground coffee.

The majority of tea is sold by food retailers and in discount supermarkets. Specialist tea retailers were another shopping source for tea drinkers. When going into more detail about favorite tea types among German consumers, tea bags were in the lead. In total, per capita tea and coffee consumption have decreased during recent years, though figures started going up again after 2018.

Germany imports its tea from several different countries. The leading import partners were India, China and Sri Lanka.

This statistic is a result which was calculated based on various characteristics of the survey. The question was not asked directly. During the survey respondents had to answer how often they consumed the aforementioned coffee and tea types. This statistic shows the share of respondents for every type of coffee and tea who chose the answers “daily” (if available, “several times a day”), “several times a week” or “once a week”.
