Share of personal computer users in Italy 2006-2022

In Italy, the share of personal computer (PC) users increased from 42.2 percent in 2006 to 57.5 percent in 2015. After that year, the share of Italians using their PCs remained somewhat stable, reaching just over 57 percent in 2022.

The Italian PC market projected to decrease

Over the past decades, PCs have become a major part of our everyday life, from studying to working to relaxing. However, the Italian PC market suffered from the several negative economic events of the last couple of years and its size, which amounted to roughly four billion euros in 2023, is forecast to decrease in the near future. The PC market includes desktop PCs, laptops and tablets. In the Southern European country, laptops are the most profitable segment, with expected revenues of over 2.5 billion euros by 2028. Tablets and desktop PCs followed, respectively.

PCs mostly popular among Italians with upper education

Because of their many functionalities, PCs are owned widely used among Italians of different ages and education levels. In 2023, almost 70 percent of Italians owned a laptop or desktop computer, with Apple and Asus being the leading vendors for laptop and desktop PCs, respectively. These devices are mostly popular among Italians with upper and post-secondary education, as well as those who go to university or do a doctoral and specialization course.
