In 2023, just above 1.7 thousand new non-fiction books and editions were published in Sweden, along with 3.68 thousand new fiction books. Fiction generally makes up the majority of new publications, and the number of new books in this category has generally been growing over the years, whereas the annual number of new non-fiction books decreased in recent years. Compared to the previous year, new publications for children's and youth books experienced the biggest decrease in 2023, around 17 percent.
