This statistic shows the total investments of institutional investors in investment fund shares or units in the Netherlands from 2006 to 2016 (in million euros). In 2016, total investments were worth approximately 944.1 billion euros. This is an increase from the 863.1 billion euros reached in 2015 and the highest value reached since 2006.

The source defines institutional investors as: "units that invest capital that is acquired as a result of their activities. These activities are mainly the insurance of pensions and offering private investors opportunities to invest in selected risk profiles. The population of institutional investors contains pension funds, insurance corporations and non-MMF investment funds. The money market funds are excluded from the investment funds."

Investment fund shares are defined by the source as "shares of an investment fund if the fund has a corporate structure. They are known as units if the fund is a trust. Investment funds are collective investment undertakings through which investors pool funds for investment in financial and/or non-financial assets."

Up to 2005 no figures are available for foreign investment fund shares. These are included in listed shares up to 2005, and from then on in shares in investment funds.

In 2014, Statistics the Netherlands has conducted a major revision on their macro-economic data. The national accounts have been compiled in accordance with the guidelines and concepts of the new European System of Accounts 2010 (ESA 2010). In addition, new statistical sources and estimation methods have been used during the revision. This table shows the figures from 2008 after revision, the figures up to 2008 have not changed.
