The source defines non-MMF investment funds as: "collective investment schemes which are principally engaged in issuing investment fund shares or units, and, on their own account, to make investments primarily in financial assets other than short-term financial assets and in non-financial assets (usually real estate). The money market funds are excluded from the investment funds."

The long-term investments consist of the risk-bearing investments and the interest-bearing investments. The risk-bearing investments consist of the categories direct property and equity and shares. The category equity and shares can be further subdivided into listed shares, unlisted shares and investment fund shares or units.

The category interest-bearing investments consists of mortgage loans, long-term securities, financial derivatives, long-term loans and other interest-bearing investments.
