Per capita consumption of apple juice in Germany 2005-2022
Per capita consumption of apple juice in Germany has been decreasing during recent years. In 2022, it amounted to 5.4 liters, compared to 12.4 liters in 2005. This trend is occurring due to various reasons, among them changing consumer preferences in a varied fruit juice market, as well as rising awareness of the amounts of sugar many juice brands use in their products.
Apples and oranges
Despite falling consumption levels, apple juice still remains one of the most consumed in Germany, with orange juice taking the lead. Orange juice, like in many other countries, is still a popular breakfast beverage, while apple juice is often given to children. Apple juice production volume has generally been dropping in the last decade, with roughly 600 million liters recorded in 2023. Production value amounted to 328 million euros in the same year.
Fluctuating industry revenue
Fruit juice industry revenue in the country fluctuated in recent years, amounting to around 3.35 billion euros in 2023. Additional challenges contributing to this development are the same as in other industries: labor shortages, agricultural issues exacerbated by climate change and high energy costs around the world.
