This statistic depicts the annual development of the number of distilleries in Germany from 2001 to 2022. In 2023, there were 11,411 distilleries in Germany. This represents another decrease compared to the previous year and the lowest number of distilleries counted in Germany within this timeline.

With the entry into force of the Alcohol Tax Act on 1st January 2018, the systems regarding the classification of distilleries and the recording period have changed. A comparison with previous years is therefore not possible. 

Until 2017: Operating year from 1st October of the previous year to 30th September of the specified year.

From 2018: calendar year

2001-2010: only distilleries within the monopoly.

2011-2017: Distilleries inside and outside the monopoly
