As of 2023, the number of sentenced prisoners in all prisons in Finland amounted to 2,325. There were 1,261 sentenced prisoners in closed prisons, of which 1,190 were male inmates and 71 female inmates.
Prisoners, who are deemed to adapt to the freer conditions than the conditions in closed prisons, are placed in open prisons.
