This statistic outlines the number of people employed by the chemical industry in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) from 1997 to 2019. The figures for 1997 to 2016 are excluding the pharmaceutical industry. Figures from 2017 to 2019 include employment numbers for the rubber and plastics as well as pharmaceuticals segments. In 2019, there were some 3.3 million people employed by the chemical industry in the EU and the UK.
