Many countries have decoupled economic growth from carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions since 2005, particularly in Europe. Between 2005 and 2021, Denmark's gross domestic product (GDP) increased 21.7 percent, while production-based emissions there decreased 43 percent. The United Kingdom also saw a notable decline in emissions while experiencing economic growth.
