This graph shows the average cost overrun of transport infrastructure projects undertaken around the world between 1960 and 2014, by project type. Rail infrastructure construction projects had an average cost overrun of 34 percent, the highest of any project type.

Figures are based on database of 170 large infrastructure projects planned between 1960 and 2014. 119 were finished projects while 51 were still underconstruction at the time of the study.
