Muesli was the most popular type of cereal in Germany, followed by oats and cornflakes. Muesli is a popular breakfast meal choice among the German population.

Most important meal of the day

Different countries have varying approaches and preferences where breakfast is concerned. Worldwide, the per-capita sales volume of breakfast products is highest in Ireland, followed by France and Sweden. Germany was 11th on the list.

Meanwhile, also globally, the most revenue from breakfast products was generated in China, with runners-up Indonesia and United States. And this time Germany made the top ten.

In Europe

Breakfast is especially important for children, as unlike adults they cannot always go out and have breakfast outside of home. In Europe, the highest share of children who had breakfast every day was recorded in Portugal, followed by Denmark and Ireland. Generally, the products that are often used for European breakfasts made up the largest shares in food market revenues.

The survey asked respondents to state how often they consumed each of the types of cereal products referred to above. This statistic shows the share of respondents for each type of cereal product that stated "daily", "several times a week", "about once a week", "several times a month" or "about once a month".
