German per capita beef and veal consumption levels have fluctuated somewhat in the last decade, amounting to 11.2 kilograms in 2023. Figures decreased in recent years.

Pork most consumed type of meat

When looking at per capita consumption of meat products in Germany by type, pork is the most consumed, followed by poultry and then beef. In the country that is also known for its many sausage products, recorded pork consumption levels are explainable. Lower meat consumption levels in general may also be due to growing pursuit of vegetarian or vegan lifestyles, as well as rising awareness and criticism of the meat processing industry in general.

In accordance with recorded consumption levels, pork continues to be the most produced type of meat in Germany, followed by poultry and then beef. Total beef and veal production volume in the European Union is predicted to decrease in the next decade.
