Throughout recent years, Oi's participation in the fixed telephony segment in Brazil has decreased, while Embratel's and Vivo's have risen. In 2018, Oi accounted for nearly 31.4 percent of the fixed-line services in the South American country, whereas the market share of Vivo (which in 2016 incorporated GVT) surpassed 34 percent, and Embratel's share was above 27.8 percent. Moreover, Vivo led Brazil's mobile telephony market in 2018.
