This statistic displays the total number of acquired Dutch citizenships in the Netherlands in 2016, by the former nationality. It shows that in 2016 roughly 28,500 people received their Dutch passport. The single largest group of new Dutch citizens came originally from Morocco (3,364 people), followed by Turkey (2,764 people) and the former Soviet Union (1,060 people).

Total number of acquired Dutch citizenships, excluding births. The Dutch nationality can be obtained through adoption, through option, through naturalization and through acknowledgment. Excluded here are children with at least one Dutch parent at the time of birth, foundlings and third generation migrants.
