This statistic shows the quarterly trend in the retail sales volume (quantity bought) of dispensing chemists in Great Britain from 1st quarter 2015 to 2nd quarter 2024. The figures are seasonally adjusted estimates, measured using the Retail Sales Index (RSI) and published in index form with a reference year of 2019 equal to 100. Following a short period of decline, the volume of dispensing chemist sales has increased significantly since the third quarter of 2015. Sales reached a peak in the second quarter of 2020, when the volume index measured at 153.7. This was most likely due to coronavirus pandemic and the increased demand on medical and hygiene products. However, sales volume have decreased since then, dropping to an index value of 87.5 in the second quarter of 2024.
