This statistic shows the quarterly trend in the volume of retail sales (quantity bought) in non-specialized, predominantly non-food stores (i.e. department stores) in Great Britain from 1st quarter 2015 to 1st quarter 2024. The figures are seasonally adjusted estimates, measured using the Retail Sales Index (RSI) and published in index form with a reference year of 2019 equal to 100. Department store sales hit a low in the second quarter of 2020, when the index measured at 85.1. By the first quarter of 2024, sales had recovered and the index measured at 92.6.
