**Enka is a Japanese music genre (technically a sub-category of kayokyoku) that resembles blues and chansons. It consists mostly of sentimental ballads in the pentatonic scale with strong themes of longing, heartbreak, and homeland, traditionally sung in an irregular vibrato voice called "kobushi."
