This statistic shows the distribution of U.S. exploration and production (E&P) companies' debt/EBITDA ratio, as of early 2016. Three percent of U.S. E&P companies had no debt and positive EBITDA. 62 percent of U.S. E&P companies had a debt/EBITDA ratio above seven (or negative EBITDA).

The sample set used for this analysis is pure-play exploration and production (E&P) companies (i.e., excluding integrated oil majors and national oil companies).
