In 2023, around 94 percent of fair trade tea sold in Germany came from organic production. Except for 2020, figures did increase slightly in recent years.

The fair trade certificate proves that the respective product has been fairly traded. Fair trade is a form of controlled trade designed to address power imbalances in international trading as well as fluctuating market prices. For example, a price floor is set to ensure a specified price for the producers and producers are paid a premium on top for communal investments. Furthermore, production methods are subject to international ecological and social standards.
