Leading car brands in Malaysia 2023, by sales volume
In 2023, the Malaysian car manufacturer Perodua sold approximately 330,000 cars and therefore remains on leading the Malaysian automotive market. Proton, another Malaysian local brand, made it to the second place, with total sales of over 150,000 cars. The automotive industry in the country has started to recover after a decrease in sales during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its popularity soared after the launch of the first generation of Proton Saga, which remains one of Proton’s most popular models among Malaysians. Following Proton’s success, the second Malaysian car company, Perodua, was established in 1992.
