A success story
A Lidl supermarket is immediately recognizable thanks to the yellow circle holding the brand name, stamped on a blue background. Based on a survey conducted in Germany in 2022, 98 percent of respondents were aware of the Lidl brand, while 66 percent confirmed its popularity. The increasing number of stores is backed up by annually growing revenue figures, with around 30.1 billion euros recorded in 2022. Numbers had increased significantly compared to the 2010s.
Discount demand
Discount supermarkets sell groceries priced lower, compared to other food retailers and supermarkets. While always popular, discounters have become even more relevant amid Germany’s ongoing inflation and increased energy prices, with consumers reconsidering their budgets and habits. The number of people in Germany who bought food for their household in discounter stores like Lidl, Aldi, or Netto remained stable in recent years, with around 58.2 million people doing so in 2023.
