Microcephaly cases among newborns in Brazil by state 2010-2016
Brazil had seen a sharp rise in total cases of microcephaly among newborns in 2015 believed to be connected with the spreading of the Zika virus.
This statistic shows the number of cases of microcephaly among newborn children in Brazil from 2010 to 2016, by federal state. In 2014, there were 12 cases of microcephalia reported for Pernambuco. In 2016, the number of cases rose dramatically to 2,163 cases, according to data available as of October 2016.
