First steps during the homebuying process in the U.S. 2023, by age group

The oldest homebuyers were the less likely to start their search for a home by looking online for properties for sale, compared to other generations. That was found by a 2023 survey among American homebuyers who recently purchased a home. Searching for listings online was still the most important step for 59 to 68-year-olds, but a high percentage of respondents started the search by seeking information about the process online and asking friends and family. Respondents between 78 and 98 stood out as the most likely to directly contact a real estate agent.
