When purchasing a house in the United States in 2023, the majority of all home buyers across all age groups purchased a home for an amount between 95 and 110 percent of the asking price. Millennial buyers (between 34 and 43 years old) made up the larger share of buyers who paid above the asking price for their homes.

The source adds the following information: "In July 2023, NAR mailed out a 129-question survey using a random sample weighted to be representative of sales on a geographic basis to 189,750 recent home buyers. The recent home buyers had to have purchased a primary residence home between July 2022 and June 2023. A total of 6,817 responses were received from primary residence buyers. After accounting for undeliverable questionnaires, the survey had an adjusted response rate of 3.6 percent."
