Canada's national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2022 increased to 708 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). This represented an annual increase of 1.4 percent, and an overall decrease of seven percent from 2005 levels. The North American country has set the target of slashing its GHG emissions by 40 to 45 percent by 2030, relative to 2005 levels.
