This statistic displays the volume of emissions that could be prevented through emissions trading schemes (ETS) worldwide from 2005 to 2016. In 2005, some 2.15 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents were placed in emissions trading schemes. In this year, EU member states implemented the EU ETS. Iceland, Liechstenstein, and Norway were included as of 2008.
