Global per capita environmental footprint in the U.S. by type 2014

This statistic displays the environment footprint per capita in the United States in 2014, by footprint type. During this time, the United States had a total ecological footprint of 17.2 global acres per capita. The ecological footprint measures a population's demand for biological products like forests, space for infrastructure, and animal- and plant- based products, as well as the ecosystems' supply of resources and services, which includes the nation's biologically productive land and aquatic systems. The carbon footprint converts the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into an amount of productive land and sea area needed to sequester these emissions. In the United States, 67 percent of the ecological footprint is comprised of the carbon footprint.
