In recent decades the United Kingdom has been shifting away from coal-fired power and transitioning to clean energy sources. This has seen carbon dioxide emissions in the UK drop by more than 40 percent compared to 1990 levels. This trend is expected to continue in the coming decades, with projections showing that total carbon dioxide emissions will drop to 308 million metric tons by 2040.
