Greenhouse gas emissions produced by the transportation sector in Canada totaled 156 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022. This represented an increase of four percent in comparison to the previous year. Canada's transportation emissions grew by 32 percent between 1990 and 2019 to a high of 170 MtCO₂e. The following year saw emissions plummet 16 percent due to COVID-19-related lockdowns and restrictions. Though transportation emissions in Canada have rebounded since 2020, they have remained below pre-pandemic levels.
