Secondary energy use has gradually increased in Canada, peaking at roughly 9.7 exajoules in 2018. Between 1990 and 2018, figures increased by 2.7 exajoules. Secondary energy is energy that is generated through the conversion of primary energies. Electricity and hydrogen are examples of secondary energy.
