As of December 2022, enterprises with one to four employees represented the largest group of businesses in Canada. Specifically, there were 757 thousand active businesses belonging to this group. Enterprises with five to nine employees amounted to 243 thousand, the second most numerous group.

The data includes all active Canadian locations with employees. The Unclassified category is composed of units with employees which have not received a North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.
