Based on figures going back to 2011, spending on domestic overnight trips in Great Britain's capital, London, peaked in 2022 at 5.09 billion British pounds. The second highest figure was recorded in 2019, totaling 3.04 billion British pounds. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, tourism in the United Kingdom was significantly limited between March 2020 and March 2021, resulting in a lack of data collection for that period. With the ease of the travel restrictions, domestic tourism in the region recovered. Between April and December 2021, spending on domestic overnight trips in London amounted to roughly 2.61 billion British pounds, the highest figure in a decade.

¹ Due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, 2020 data is missing, and 2021 figures only refer to the period from April to December. In 2021, the source changed the survey method from face-to-face interviews to online surveys. It then mentioned that these reasons limit the comparability of 2021 data with figures published up to 2019.

² The survey, carried out weekly, asks respondents about overnight trips taken in Great Britain during the previous four weeks. While the annual target sample is 60,000, the number of respondents from April to December 2021 was 47,008. However, the sample size used for trip estimation was lower than the number of interviews, as not every respondent had made an eligible overnight trip.
